First Saturday Stroll on Elm Launches May 2 with Vendors, Live Entertainment, and Free Family Activities Downtown

GREENSBORO, N.C. —  A new monthly gathering has come to downtown Greensboro. The City of Greensboro Parks & Recreation and Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) have launched First Saturday Stroll on Elm, a free community event occurring on the first Saturday of every month on the 300 block of S. Elm Street between McGee Street and Washington Street.

The next event is Saturday, May 2, 2026, starting at 12 p.m. The Stroll is built around a simple idea: give Greensboro residents a reason to come downtown every month and support the small businesses and vendors who make it worth visiting.

"First Saturday Stroll on Elm officially kicks off on May 2, and we could not be more excited to bring this pedestrian-friendly experience to downtown Greensboro,” said Rob Overman, Interim Executive Director of Downtown Greensboro Inc. “This is a wonderful opportunity to come out, explore, and support the local businesses that make this city special."

The 300 block of Elm Street will be filled with local vendors and small businesses, including offerings from Design Archives, The District GSO, Creative Greensboro, The Forge, Reconsidered Goods, Marjae's Wine Bar, and more.

"The Saturday Strolls on Elm series transforms a part of our downtown core into a vibrant pedestrian space that fosters engagement,” said Phil Fleischmann, Parks and Recreation Director. “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to community vitality through creating a unique event experience that helps downtown continue to shine. I encourage everyone to join us downtown this Saturday and throughout the year.”

Entertainment will include live music, a breakdancing showcase with GSOul, a free pop-up yoga class with Find Your Flow at noon, and a pro wrestling event from Firestar Pro Wrestling. May 2 also falls on Free Comic Book Day, so be sure to stop by Strange Ways Comics and More, 335 S. Davie St. in downtown Greensboro, to pick up a free comic book while supplies last.

Families are encouraged to start the morning at Chandler's, where Strange Ways is hosting a Breakfast with Spidey from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m., before the stroll programming begins at noon.

Stroll visitors can take advantage of Greensboro Transit Authority's "Hopper Trolley", a fare-free and ADA accessible option for navigating downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods. Simply hop on at any designated stop along and enjoy a convenient ride right to the 300 block of South Elm St. More information is available here.

Shop Downtown, Get Rewarded
Attendees who make a purchase at any downtown Greensboro business on May 2 and bring their receipt to the DGI tent will receive a branded First Saturday Stroll bag and a $5 Boro Buck card to use at participating downtown businesses. Supplies are limited, so come early. It is a simple way to make every dollar spent downtown go a little further.
The event is free and open to the public. Learn more about DGI’s Boro Bucks digital gift card here.

A Monthly Tradition for Greensboro
First Saturday Stroll on Elm returns on the first Saturday of every month, encouraging residents to come downtown and giving local businesses a recurring opportunity to connect with their community. The goal is to show up every month and let the tradition build itself.
