Downtown Neighborhood Association Brings Club & Resource Fair to October's First Saturday Stroll on Elm

Downtown Neighborhood Association's first fair joins “Squaretoberfest” in Hamburger Square, with a stein holding competition, street market and live music on Oct. 3

Greensboro, NC—Downtown Greensboro's newest neighborhood group is setting up shop at the First Saturday Stroll on Elm. The Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) will host a Club & Resource Fair during the Stroll on Saturday, Oct. 3, alongside Squaretoberfest in Hamburger Square. The Stroll begins at noon on the 300 block of South Elm Street between McGee and Washington streets and is free and open to the public.

The fair grew directly out of what downtown residents asked for. Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) revived the Downtown Neighborhood Association in August to build community among the people who call the center city home and to give them a stronger voice. As the association took shape, its members said they wanted more opportunities to connect with one another and to get involved downtown. The Club & Resource Fair is the association's answer: clubs, organizations and resources gathered in one place, so residents can see what is available to them and find where they fit.

"This is exactly what we hoped would happen when we revived the Downtown Neighborhood Association," said Rob Overman, Interim Executive Director of DGI. "Residents identified a need, and the association built something to meet it. A downtown where neighbors know each other and know where to plug in is a downtown where people want to live."

The fair will take place on the north side of the closure from 1 to 5 p.m. Participating organizations include:

Natty Greene's Pour Decisions Book Club
SynerG Young Professionals
Deep Roots Market
Unfettered Books' Stitch n' Bitch
Natty Greene's Run Club
GSO Girls Club
Bennett College Wellness Pods
Girls Guide to Greensboro
Creative Greensboro
Downtown Ambassadors
Union Coffee's Out The Door Run Club
Find Your Flow Fitness & Wellness
Greensboro Jaycees
Dynamic Hot Yoga Company
Red Beard Dog Training & Downtown Dog Enrichment
Homegirls Only Social Club
GSO All Girls Walk Club
Miriam P. Brenner Children's Museum
IGen - City of Greensboro Young Professionals Group
Focus Personal Training

While the fair was created with downtown residents in mind, visitors are welcome to stop by and learn about the organizations that support the center city.

The Downtown Neighborhood Association held its first meeting Aug. 12 and meets every other month, pairing social time with discussion of topics that matter to downtown living. Residents interested in joining can learn more at downtowngreensboro.org/explore/downtown-neighborhood-association.
