Halloween Photographic Exhibit.

Paul Nixon is a contemporary multi-disciplinary artist whose work transforms the geography of County Sligo, in the northwest of Ireland, into a living archive of Irish folklore. His practice bridges the tangible landscape and the unseen spiritual realm, exploring the continuous tension between human mortality and eternal legend. Guided by a deep store of local memory passed down by his grandmother, Margaret, Paul’s creative vision treats the Irish terrain not as a static backdrop, but as a monumental testament to ancestral myth. His work invites viewers to stand at the threshold where the physical and mythological worlds meet. Paul’s artistic process balances visual and tactile mediums. Through twilight photography, he captures the shifting light around the high limestone cliffs of Benbulben Mountain and the surrounding countryside, documenting the ethereal transition from day to night. This photographic exploration is anchored by his raw wood carvings, cement and resin sculptures, which channel the weight of ancient narratives—such as Diarmuid’s tragic final hunt on the Sligo heaths. By uniting these disciplines, Paul creates an immersive sensory experience that honors both the physical earth and the ghosts of Irish history. He now lives and works in Greensboro, NC, continuously documenting the intersections of land, myth, and memory.
