Live Jazz with Steve Haines & Greg Hyslop

600 S. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27406

Greg Hyslop and Steve Haines have been playing together for over 20 years. Greg Hyslop (guitar) has been an active member of the Greensboro musical community for the last 45 years. He has performed many styles of music during that time, but his role at UNCG is teaching jazz guitar and coaching combos. Greg is a graduate of Page High School (1969), and Berklee College of Music (1977). Prior to his years in Boston, Greg spent two years attending UNCG studying classical trumpet and playing guitar in the first UNCG jazz ensemble under the direction of Ray Gariglio. In addition to teaching at UNCG, Greg has also taught at Greensboro College for over twenty five years. Canadian-born Steve Haines (double bass) has played with Chad Eby, Wycliffe Gordon, Paul Bollenback, Joel Frahm, Ralph Bowen, Fred Wesley, and the Joey Calderazzo Trio. Samba De Maracatu, his 2021 recording with Joe Chambers (Blue Note) has received critical acclaim, particularly in Japan and Europe. He has also written for Becca Stevens and full orchestra, heard on Steve Haines and the Third Floor Orchestra (Justin Time) recording released in 2019. Lately, he has been meddling with writing lyrics. He is married to an organic chemistry professor and they have three vivacious children, Ben, Violet, and Jimmy.
