With the announcement from Gov. Roy Cooper to suspend state-wide events that exceed 100 or more people, Downtown Greensboro, Inc. (DGI), has announced the postponement of the ACC Tournament Town Downtown Street Festival scheduled for March 14.
“While we are saddened that this event will not be taking place, we are thoughtful that the health of our entire country should take precedent before the entertainment of our community. We stand with our government to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus,” said Zack Matheny, President and CEO of DGI. “I want to thank the dozens of people who worked tirelessly to plan this event and rest assured, we’ll be announcing plans for a similar festival in the very near future.”
The cancellation of the Downtown Street Festival, as well as the ACC Tournament and NCAA opening rounds in Greensboro will be a hard blow to local businesses. DGI encourages the local community to support their neighbors who are struggling to keep their doors open during this difficult economic time.
“Order dinner to go, shop our local retailers online,” Matheny says. “Our downtown businesses are owned and operated by our friends. Let’s do what we can to support each of them.”
