GREENSBORO, N.C. — Thrive35, the Downtown Greensboro Area Strategic Plan! Visioning Survey

As Greensboro experiences unprecedented growth, Thrive35 emerges as a roadmap for downtown’s future.

Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI), in partnership with the City of Greensboro, the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, and local foundations, has launched Thrive35, a bold 10-year vision plan for downtown. The initiative seeks public input to shape future growth and development.

“With recent economic momentum, now is the time for our community to come together and help shape downtown’s future,” said Zack Matheny, President of DGI.

Downtown Greensboro has seen record-breaking economic growth, with over 8.6 million visits last year. Major regional investments, including Toyota’s $14 billion commitment and developments at Piedmont Triad International Airport, highlight the city’s potential.

Thrive35 will harness community insights to create a strategic blueprint for growth while preserving downtown’s authenticity and history. One key opportunity is the redevelopment of the 10-acre News & Record site in the heart of downtown.

“A vibrant downtown sets the tone for an entire city,” said Greensboro City Manager Nathaniel “Trey” Davis. “Strategic planning is essential to ensuring continued growth and success.”

The initiative includes a community survey and a series of public input events to gather ideas. Residents, businesses, and stakeholders are encouraged to participate.

“With collaboration and community input, we can create a thriving downtown that drives economic growth and enhances Greensboro’s identity,” said Durant Bell, chairman of the Thrive35 Steering Committee.

Thrive35 is supported by DGI, the City of Greensboro, the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, and local foundations. A diverse committee of business leaders and community members will guide the initiative.

By tapping into Greensboro’s momentum, this initiative will reimagine downtown’s potential, fostering economic vitality, cultural vibrancy, and community-driven progress.
